He’s more than a pretty boy

Laura Wilson trained a quinella at Shepparton last week with Hadtobeharry and Creatable.

The Thomson name has been synonymous with good trotters for decades and they may have another smart one in Prettyboy Harry.

Prettyboy Harry is trained by Kyabram horseman Brent Thomson who is the son of Russell Thomson, who has had his share of extra smart trotters down the years.

Brent produced Prettyboy Harry for an impressive win at only his fifth start at the Yarra Valley meeting on Monday.

He was able to get the son of Majestic Son into three back oneout sit for the latter part of the race and when he let him go in the back straight he proceeded to reel in his rivals swiftly with a good turn of speed and go onto an easy 7.3m win over Sundays Shadow and favourite Salski in smart 2:01.6 mile rate time for the 2150m trip.

Prettyboy Harry was having his second start in this campaign, but had given a sample of his ability late last year in his first three runs when he saluted at Maryborough.

Prettyboy Harry is out of the Keystone Salute mare Prettygirl Lassie who won four races and has left another extra smart trotter in Sebastian Boy a winner of seven races from 23 starts

Thomson wasn’t far off a training-driving double at the meeting, finishing second with another of his trotters Sky Lindy, who was rolled by the 80/1 shot Sabihalil.

Cresco too tough

Stanhope-trained pacer Ohemmjay Cresco notched his second win with a tough performance at Yarra Valley on Monday.

Driven by James Herbertson, the Gary Pekin-trained five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach and well fancied Keepcrackingjokes had a two-horse war in the concluding stages with the winner prevailing by a half head.

The third placegetter, Favourite Highlight. was nearly 14m away.

Pekin had two runners in the race with his drive Harnett finishing sixth.

There was plenty of confidence it may have been Ohemmjay Cresco’s day as he was sent out a $3.80 favourite.

It was a good result for the Pekin family as Gary’s wife Jane bred and owns Ohemmjay.

It had to be the Wilsons

The Wilsons are on a winning streak. Talented trotter Hadtobeharry made it successive wins with a bold front running display at last week’s Shepparton meeting.

Laura Wilson, the Byrneside trainer of the six-year-old Majestic Son gelding not only saluted with Hadtobeharry, but also had the second placegetter Creatable.

Laura’s hubby Damian drove Hadtobeharry and she reined Creatable.

Hadtobeharry posted his sixth win and his third this season with his allthe-way effort.

He was coming off a win at Bendigo the previous week and has now won three of his past six starts.

Damian Wilson completed a driving double at the meeting when he partnered the promising Byrneside Boom, who he trains, to another win.

The favourite Lenny Lincoln handed up the lead early to Byrneside Boom who defied all efforts to be run down in the home straight for a tough win.

By Sportswriter Byrneside Boom was having his 18th start which have produced four wins and three minor placings.

Damian Wilson’s winning streak continued at Echuca on Wednesday night when he won the feature event, the $10,000 Peter Walsh Challenge final, driving the Brian Kieseytrained Admiralofthefleet to an allthe-way win.

Admiralofthefleet completed the heat-final double with his win as he had won his heat the previous week at Swan Hill when driven by Shepparton horseman Cameron Maggs.

Whooping with joy

Those punters lucky enough to include 50/1 shot Eagles And Indians with the other three leg winners in the early quaddie at the Shepparton meeting last week got a nice windfall.

A full unit paid a handsome $17,963 which is a good night’s punting by any standards.

Brothers Craven a winner

Western district’s reinsman Glen Craven rarely makes an appearance at Shepparton meetings, so when he does its worth noting.

Craven had just the one drive at last week’s Shepparton meeting, partnering the Steve Loftus-trained Ghost Of Time.

It wasn’t a wasted trip with Ghost Of Time showing great gate speed to lead from barrier six and spreadeagle his rivals at the business end of the race, finishing 13m clear of the runner-up, the Bec Bartley-trained and driven Mongiana.

Ghost Of Time posted a PB mile rate of 1:56.5 for the 2190m trip in recording his seventh win and 15 minor placings in 40 starts.

Glen’s brother Mathew also tasted success at the meeting, producing the James Herbertson-driven trotter, the Andover Hall three-year-old Hoppy to his third win in eight starts which have also produced four second placings.

He is the first and only foal out of the unraced Muscle Hill mare Chevron Muscle.

Two out of three ain’t bad

Two wins from three drives was Stanhope reinsman Mark Pitt’s return from the Ballarat meeting last Friday night.

Pitt partnered the Tindale-trained Amore Rock to win at nice odds and was also in the sulky on the Clayton Tonkin-prepared and Shepparton -owned Techys Watching, who was the good thing on the program and won accordingly.

Techys Watching, bred and owned by Shepparton businessman Mario Cirillo, has now won seven of 12 starts with his latest win taking his prizemoney earnings to more than $90,000.

Pitt has been in the sulky for five of these wins, but it was the first time he had driven Amore Rock.

Techys Watching is by Hes Watching out of the Washington VC mare Venus Williams, a five times winner who has also left Alta Christiano, who won 18 races.

Ivar love for track

Trotter Ivar obviously likes Echuca’s Frank Ryan Raceway.

The Paul Weidenbach-trained five-year-old son of Majestic Son has won three races and two of them have been on the Echuca track, the latest at Wednesday night’s meeting.

Driven by his son Kevin, Ivar sprinted over his rivals when he got clear in the home straight after racing three back on the pegs for most of the 2120m trip.

Ivar’s previous win was on the same track in May and an eye-catching second placing at Swan Hill on June 19 at his previous start indicated he was ready to salute again.

Shot at Platinum

District pacers will contest the $30,000 Alabar Vicbred Platinum Mares final at Melton tomorrow night.

Rochester horseman Neville Pangrazio has Ivana Bytheseaside coming from barrier three and Shepparton trainer Russell Jack is pinning his hopes on Wendys Wish, who has a back row draw to contend with, but the services of top reinsman Nathan Jack.
